What this is

A countdown shows the time left until a moment and updates every second. For creators its value is not the number but the visible deadline: a release with a countdown feels more real than one described as 'next week'. The link here stores the date inside the address itself, so it can be shared with anyone without an account or any storage service.

How it works

The target is read in each reader's own device time zone. If your event is tied to one zone — a stream at 8pm Jakarta time, say — state the zone in your text, because a countdown shows time remaining rather than what hour the event falls on where the reader is.

Countdowns work best across days to a few weeks. Too far out and the number stops feeling urgent; too close and nobody has time to arrange to be there. Around two weeks is the span that usually works.

How to use it

  1. Set the date and time The countdown starts immediately and updates every second.
  2. Give the event a title The title travels inside the shared link.
  3. Copy and share the link Anyone who opens it sees the same countdown, with nothing to sign up for.

Common questions

Does the countdown link need an account?
No — the date and title live inside the link's own address rather than on any server. That means the link keeps working for as long as this page exists, and nothing is stored about you.
Which time zone does the countdown use?
The target is read in the time zone of whichever device opens the link, so the remaining time is correct for everyone. If your event is tied to a particular zone, say so in your announcement text to avoid confusion.
Does the countdown keep running in a background tab?
Browsers slow updates in background tabs to save power, but the countdown recomputes from the real clock whenever the tab becomes active again — so the number is always correct when you look at it.

Notes

  • The date and title live inside the link, not on our servers.
