What this is

A social media image resizer fits an image to the dimensions each platform expects. The part that matters is not the resizing but how the ratio difference is handled: forcing a landscape photo into a square squashes faces, while cropping it can cut away the part that mattered. This tool offers both treatments — crop to fill, or fit the whole image against a coloured background — so you choose the compromise rather than having one chosen for you.

How it works

Enlarging beyond an image's own resolution adds no detail — pixels that were never captured cannot be recovered. If your source is smaller than the target, the result will look softer, and this tool says so rather than letting you discover it after uploading.

When cropping to fill, where the crop sits decides everything. A centre crop is safe for most images, but for photographs of people a crop biased upwards is nearly always better, because faces rarely sit in the exact middle of a frame.

Common questions

What is the correct Instagram image size?
An Instagram square post is 1080 × 1080 pixels, portrait is 1080 × 1350, and landscape is 1080 × 566. Stories and Reels use 1080 × 1920. Instagram re-compresses whatever you upload, so matching those dimensions exactly gives the sharpest result.
Should I crop the image or fit it?
Crop when the important part sits centrally and the edges can go — it fills the frame and looks tidiest. Fit when the whole image must remain visible, such as a chart or a screenshot, and accept the coloured bands on the empty sides.
Why does my image look blurry after resizing?
Because the source is smaller than the target, so its pixels have to be stretched. No tool can fix this, since detail that was never captured cannot be recovered — use a higher-resolution original if you have one.
