YouTube Description Builder
Fill in each section to assemble a tidy video description, chapters and links included.
What this is
A YouTube description builder assembles the parts of a video description into one block ready to paste. The part that carries the most weight is the opening two sentences, because only about 157 characters show before the more link, and that same fragment often becomes the snippet in search results. This tool marks that fold as you type, so you can keep what matters above the line.
How it works
Chapters only form when the timestamp list satisfies its rules: it starts at 0:00, ascends, has at least three entries, and each section runs at least ten seconds. This builder formats them correctly, but cannot know whether your sections are long enough — for the full check, use the dedicated chapters generator.
Hashtags in a description behave specifically: the first three appear above the video title, and using more than fifteen makes YouTube ignore all of them. Three relevant ones are worth far more than fifteen generic ones.
Links in a description pass no ranking value to their destination, because YouTube marks them as unendorsed. They are still worth including to send viewers somewhere — just do not expect them to move your site's search ranking.
How to use it
- Write the opening two sentences This is what reads before the more link, and it often becomes the search snippet.
- Add chapters and links Enter timestamps one per line, and links as a label with its address.
- Copy it into YouTube Copy the assembled block and paste it into the video's description field.
Common questions
- How much of a YouTube description shows before the more link?
- Roughly the first 157 characters show before a viewer has to tap the more link, though the exact figure varies by device. Because that fragment also tends to become the search snippet, the most important information belongs inside it.
- How many hashtags should a description have?
- Three to five genuinely relevant hashtags is enough, and only the first three appear above the video title. Going past fifteen makes YouTube ignore all of them, so stacking them removes the benefit entirely.
- Does the description affect a video's ranking?
- The description helps YouTube and Google understand what a video covers, so it influences which searches it matches. Its weight is far below the title, thumbnail and watch time — a description supplies context, it does not substitute for performance.
