YouTube Video SEO Analyzer
Paste a video URL, or type in a title and description yourself, to get a score with its reasoning.
What this is
A video SEO analysis checks how complete and well-formed a video's metadata is — its title, description, tags and chapters — then scores each check separately. What it measures is the part you control completely. What it does not measure, and what no external tool can measure, is watch time and click-through rate — and those are what actually decide how widely a video gets shown.
The formula
score = titleLength(15) + frontLoading(10) + tone(10) + descLength(20) + opening(10) + chapters(10) + tags(10) + keywordAgreement(15)
- Each check carries a fixed weight, and the total is their plain sum.
- The largest weight sits on the description (20) because it is the field most often left empty.
- Tags are worth only 10 because they matter far less than they once did.
- The maximum is 100; an A starts at 85.
How it works
The chapter check only applies to videos long enough to need them. A video under four minutes loses no points for having none, since chapters on something that short help nobody. For longer videos, chapters only count when the first one starts at 0:00 — that is YouTube's own condition for turning a list of timestamps into chapters.
The agreement check compares the meaningful words in the title against the description and tags. A mismatch usually signals not poor optimisation but that the three fields were written at different times about different things — and viewers feel that mismatch before any search engine computes it.
A high score does not guarantee ranking, and the page says so next to the score. Clean metadata removes obstacles; what decides the rest is whether people click and then stay. Any tool promising rankings from a metadata score alone is selling something it cannot deliver.
How to use it
- Paste the video URL The title, description and tags fill themselves in when live data is on.
- Or type the fields in yourself Useful for scoring a draft before the video is published.
- Fix the lowest-scoring check first Each check names what to change rather than only giving a number.
Common questions
- What is YouTube SEO?
- YouTube SEO is the practice of shaping a video's title, description, tags and thumbnail so it can be found and its contents are clear. It is worth stressing that metadata is only a small part of the calculation — watch time and click-through rate weigh far more.
- Do YouTube tags still matter?
- Tags carry little weight compared with the title and description, which is why they are worth only a tenth of the total here. They remain worth filling in because they cost almost no time, but they are not worth focusing on.
- Why is my score high but the video still gets no views?
- This score measures metadata only, while what decides how widely a video is shown is click-through rate and watch time. Clean metadata removes obstacles, but it cannot make anyone click an unappealing thumbnail or sit through a slow opening.
Notes
- The score measures metadata completeness, not ranking. Retention and click-through are not externally visible.
- The tool still works without live data — just fill the fields in yourself.
